The LEGO Groups’ factory in the Czech Reoulic has been expanded twice during the latest years. The factory will now be expanded again – in two stages.

The first stage consists of a 3,200‑m² extension on top of a building that houses the Processing department where LEGO® elements are decorated and assembled. The new expansion will also be used for processing of LEGO elements.

About a year ago the LEGO Group purchased the neighbouring site. Here a building will be demolished in early 2013 to make room for the second phase of expansion: a new 11,000‑m² Packing facility and underground parking for 250 vehicles.

The expansion will be a three digit million DKK investment by the LEGO Group.

“It confirms our strong belief in the Czech factory and in the skills and culture of its employees. We expect a lot from our colleagues at this site, and the factory is part of our future,” says Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, CEO of the LEGO Group.

The expansion plans in the Czech Republic are being driven by the strong growth of the LEGO Group.

“In the design and plans for the existing buildings we have allowed for the possibility of further expansion – but we did not expect it to happen so early. If we continue to grow sales we need to expand if we do not want to experience  a capacity shortage in a few years,” says Carsten Rasmussen, senior vice president, EU Packing.

With the new expansion work, the Kladno factory will have a total of 100,000 m² under cover. It is expected that up to 300 new employees will be hired in relation to the expansion.
